RIVERMEAD Primary School is looking for volunteers to support teachers with listening to pupils read.
The schools says, “Children love to read to adults and share what they have learned, but reading and listening is very much a one-to-one topic and we could do it more with just a little help.
Many classroom tasks can be a shared learning experience with whole class participation, but that special time of reading is not one that can be squeezed into a small time slot.
“If we could get 3 or 4 volunteers for just a few hours a week, we could help develop the children’s confidence with reading aloud, which is another skill in itself! The role is all about listening and encouraging, and any training and support will be given. We are confident that you will see steady improvement in the children’s reading skill, in which you would have played a major part.
“Teaching is a very satisfying experience and we hope you will value your volunteering time as much as we shall.”
