OPEN up your calendars and mark the weekend of 4th and 5th September as dates to remember, as plans for this year’s Melksham Food and River Festival are gathering pace!
The festival, which is held in King George V playing field, is one of the town’s biggest events, and will be one of the first post-lockdown events for the community to enjoy.
Following the news last week that the government hopes to lift all legal limits on social contact by 21st June, the festival’s committee has told Melksham News that they can’t wait to return to bring some “fun and enjoyment” to the town.
And whilst plans were already “well advanced” for this year’s event, chair of Melksham Food and River Festival, Adrienne Westbrook, has explained that the committee is working hard to ensure that when it returns, the Festival will be “safe for all”.
“The news that normality should return by June 21st is very welcome,” said Adrienne. “We can’t wait to be back!
“Our website is live and we have already taken many bookings for the event. The committee had a catch up meeting on Thursday 25th to discuss the way forward, and how to work with Wiltshire and Melksham Town councils to make sure the Festival is safe for all.
“After such a difficult year we hope to bring some Festival fun and enjoyment to the town, and I know the residents will get behind the event. Hopefully we can all enjoy the weekend and enjoy the park and the river while eating and drinking local food, whilst browsing the stalls. Here’s to the 4th and 5th September.”
The news will come as a welcome relief to the community, after the disappointing news that other large events – Melksham Carnival and Party in the Park – have been postponed until 2022.
