Wiltshire Mind, your local Mental Health Charity set up a Men’s Support Group earlier in the year to support men who feel stressed, depressed, lacking in confidence or in need of mental health support.
The group has been set up as a men only group to encourage men to come forward and seek help. Carolyn Beale, Chief Exec said, “At Wiltshire Mind we recognize how difficult it is for men to sometimes seek help and would urge men of any age suffering from depression, anxiety or other mental health issue to visit the group for a chat and a coffee. Those who attend find it very beneficial. We are very grateful to the Matt Palmer Trust for funding this very worthwhile project which provides a support mechanism for men.
“It is estimated that there are more than 23,000 men in Wiltshire suffering with a Mental Health Disorder – typically: anxiety and depression, general anxieties, phobias, panic attacks, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD).
“Men are three times more likely than women to end their own lives. It is clear that there is a need among men that is not being met – at Wiltshire Mind we want to change this.”
The weekly group offers one-to-one support, advice, information and signposting to other services as well as friendship. The group is held at the office in the High Street, Melksham from 6pm to 8pm on a Tuesday evening.
