Wiltshire Wooden Spoon’s Floodlit Rugby Festival which supports disadvantaged young people has already raised £6,000, with more expected to be raised.
The fifth cluster of under 9’s games has been arranged for March 3rd at Melksham RFC with hosts entertaining teams from Devizes, Corsham and Melksham.
Wiltshire Wooden Spoon chairman Gareth John said, “It has been a remarkable series of competitions with under 9s and under 12s children raising funds by their efforts to aid disadvantaged young people throughout Wiltshire.”
The final event will be a wonderful day of rugby from all of the teams who have competed over the past two months. It will be staged at Kingsholm, the great home of Gloucester Rugby Club. This will happen on April 29th, with the under 9s in the morning and the under 12s in the afternoon.
“We believe it will be a great day to remember with our young people demonstrating their abilities at one of the most renowned rugby clubs in the UK,” said Gareth. “The money raised with the magnificent support of the children and their families throughout Wiltshire will enable us to support even more disadvantaged children across our county in the month’s ahead.
“We are deeply grateful for the support we have received from these young players and for their help to aid the most disadvantaged Wiltshire children in need.”
Matches during the floodlit tournament have been staged at Swindon Supermarine RFC (under 12s), Royal Wootton Bassett (under 9’s), Trowbridge (under 9’s), and Chippenham (under 12’s). More than 450 children have so far taken part.
