The winners of this year’s Melksham Gardens Competition have been announced after a panel of judges made up of previous entrants, Melksham Bloomers and Melksham Town Councillors, visited the residents’ gardens to view their displays.
The competition, formerly known as Melksham in Bloom, received a total of 25 entries, including individuals, businesses, schools and whole streets.
The awards will be presented to the winners at the Food and River Festival on Sunday 1st September at 2pm.
This year’s winners are: • Best Large Garden: Front – First: Pina Coombes; Second: Bruce Petty • Best Large Garden: Back – First: Bryan and Veronica Sandford; Second: Pina Coombes • Best Small Garden: Front – First: Bryan and Veronica Sandford; Second: David Walker • Best Small Garden: Back – Joint first: David Walker and Robert and Valerie Dickenson; Second: Ian Hedges.
• Best Patio or Courtyard Garden – First: Michael Clarke; Second: Diana Belli • Best Miniature Garden – Joint first: Nikki Rowe and David Walker; Joint second: Bryan and Veronica Sandford and Sue Moffet • Best Business External Floral Display – First: The Parsons Nose; Second: Feet First • Best Business Window Display – First: Dorothy House Clothes Shop; Second: The Cobblers Bench • Best Community Group – First: Woodcombe; Second: Melksham Mobile Home Park • Best School – First: Aloeric Primary School; Second: River Mead Primary School.
An honorary award has also been created for local resident Heather Songhurst, who was nominated by her son, Nigel and son-in-law Federico in recognition of the garden Heather has created in memory of her late husband, Roy.
