Melksham had to postpone the Women’s World Day of Prayer (WWDP) service planned for 2nd March because the ‘Beast from the East’ made road conditions unsafe. The service was rescheduled for Friday 16th March and took place just ahead of the second snowfall that brought Melksham to a standstill in March.
Sharon Firth from GoodNews Church, Melksham said, “Across the nation services are still being held, with more to come as late as June. Apparently the WWDP headquarters in New York does not understand why snow brings the UK to a standstill!
“This year’s service was written by the women of Suriname and gave a taster of that country’s culture and ethnic diversity, whilst highlighting the challenges of taking care of God’s creation through responsible use of the environment and natural resources.
“More than 50 people attended the service at Melksham United Church, with nine churches taking part in the readings and drama. An offering of £265 was received, to be dispersed by WWDP to various charities.”
