A MELKSHAM lad has been nominated for a national charity award in recognition of his fundraising efforts for the MS Society.
Twelve-year-old Ciaran Hanks has been shortlisted as a finalist for the ‘Young Fundraiser’ category in the MS Society Awards after raising hundreds of pounds for the charity last year by swimming the equivalent length of Loch Ness, 1,454 lengths of a 25m pool.
“I was really surprised and overwhelmed when I received the email telling me that I’m a finalist in the ‘Young Fundraiser’ category,” said Ciaran. “When I was swimming I never thought or expected anything like this would happen, I just wanted to raise awareness of Multiple Sclerosis and raise as much money as I could get, to help find a cure.
“As I read on, it invited me to the reception in London for a meal and the awards ceremony. I’m really looking forward to going to London, it will be great experience.”
During his monster challenge last year, Paralympic gold medal swimmer Stephanie Millward and Melksham Town FC players and club members joined Ciaran in the pool to help spur him on. He was also nominated for Melksham Person of the Year 2017 award for his fundraising efforts.
The awards presentation reception will be held at County Hall in London on Friday 27th April.
