Melksham Police and Young Melksham went head to head in a series of competitions at Canberra last week, all in aid of Sport Relief.
Sergeant Fulbrook-Smith of Melksham Neighbourhood Police Team and Jack Oatley, youth worker apprentice for Wiltshire Council and Young Melksham Trustee said, “We would like to thank the local businesses in Melksham for donating raffle prizes, equipment and providing food for everyone taking part to raise funds for Sport Relief; Sainsbury’s, Domino’s, Waitrose, Co-Op Pembroke Road, Auto line Services, Christie Miller, Selwood Housing and Young Melksham. This just demonstrates what community spirit is all about, even under times of austerity.”
The Melksham Neighbourhood Police team were up for the challenge again to win back the title from 2014’s Sports Relief event, but it just wasn’t to be. In the early stages, the police stormed ahead but with some great teamwork and determination, the title went to the young people 43-39.
Sergeant Fulbrook-Smith and Jack said, “We would also like to thank all the young people taking part because it wouldn’t have been possible without them actually being up for the challenge and taking part.
“Not only did this raise money for charity, of which they should all be proud of, it also builds good positive relations between young people and the local policing team. A great evening, lots of fun well done to everyone.”
Jack Oatley added, “It was amazing to see the camaraderie and sportsmanship of all the young people involved; they have mentioned to me on more than a couple of occasions that they can’t wait for next year to hold a hat-trick of wins over the police!”
