More than 11,000 responses to Wiltshire Council’s recent bus consultation, which finished in April, are being analysed to help decide how supported bus services in the county will look in the future.
Unlike many authorities, Wiltshire Council has not reduced any services this year and the consultation to review subsidised bus services in Wiltshire is an integral part of establishing a sustainable network of services within an affordable budget.
Philip Whitehead, cabinet member for transport said: “There is a great deal of information to get through, and I am grateful to everyone who took part in the consultation. We are using the responses to help shape how our bus services run in the future, to create sustainable public transport for years to come.”
Half of the bus mileage in the county is subsidised by £5.1 million per year from Wiltshire Council as it is not commercially viable otherwise. The rest of the services in Wiltshire are operated on a commercial basis by various operators.
