TWO hundred runners signed up for the fifth running of the Melksham 10K race which started in Lowbourne road and led competitors on a certified accurate two-lap course around the town taking in Blackmore Road, Queensway, Snowberry Lane and Sandridge Road.
Leading from the start was Simon Nott of Calne Running Club who ran the fastest 10K time of the year so far recorded by a Wiltshire athlete by finishing in 31-minutes and 24-seconds, breaking his own course record which he set in 2013. In second place was Michael Towler of Avon Valley Runners, with former race winner Mike Rose of Calne Running Club in third place.
In the ladies race, Katrine Svane of Team Bath led home in 39-minutes and 32-seconds with Lynette Porter of Bitton Road Runners in second and Jules Pflaum of Bristol & West AC in third.
Age group awards went to Andrew Line from West Ashton (MV40); Andrew Smallbone of Frome Running Club (MV50); Bill Silto of Swindon Harriers (MV60); Anita Mellodew of Avon Valley Runners (FV40); Sarah Smallbone of Frome Running Club (FV50) and Linda Unsworth of Avon Valley Runners (FV60).
