DO you have what it takes to make a difference?
Are you a good listener?
Have you got a few hours per month to spare?
If the answer is YES then YOU could be a 4 Youth Mentor.
4 Youth (SW), based at the Canberra Centre in Melksham is establishing a brand-new service – a mentoring scheme for young people within the local community – and is looking for local businesses and individuals to step forward to become 4Y mentors.
“The 4Youth Mentoring Scheme is a really exciting development for young people in Melksham and the surrounding area. It will build on the strong community support already provided by 4Y at the Canberra Centre in Spa Road” said Keith Clover, the 4Y mentoring project lead. “We have been funded to provide a mentoring service for young people who are in need of a bit of independent support, advice and guidance.”
The project will match fully trained mentors with young people who want to take part in the scheme. All young people will volunteer to take part in an open-ended process and mentors and young people will agree an action plan that will set a timeline for the mentor engagement.
“I am really excited about this new mentoring scheme”, said Keith. “It has the potential to work with young people and raise their aspirations, link them with local businesses and mentors from the local business community. I am looking for volunteers from any walk of life who can listen to young people, be empathic and support them in their ambitions. Who wouldn’t want to be involved in something as exciting as this?”
Initial conversations with a representative from Melksham Oak Community School have been positive and the scheme will start in October 2021 with a number of mentors and young people meeting to start their match. All training and induction will be provided by 4Youth.
