A 40-year-old Melksham business is closing with the loss of 42 jobs.
Owners Kennametal Inc, based in Pennsylvania, USA has announced they will be closing their facility in Bowerhill.
The factory in Melksham has been running for 40 years and currently employs 42 people, but is to close due to a drop in profits.
The company has cut more than 800 people from its global workforce, due to a restructuring programme meant to reduce costs.
A spokesperson for Kennametal told Melksham News, “Kennametal is streamlining its manufacturing and supply chain footprint to ensure the right capacity, products and services to serve our customers.
“As a result, we will close our facility in Melksham, UK and relocate operations to other Kennametal facilities in Germany and North America by October 2015.
“This decision deals directly with Kennametal’s need to address product line profitability and production capacity related to its business.
“We understand the effect this decision will have on our employees and are committed to working closely with them to offer transition services.”
