5,000 pounds lost by Bowerhill slimming group

Slimmers in Melksham’s Bowerhill group are celebrating a successful year after losing a total of 5,006 lbs between them in 2015.

The members are boosting their weight losses even higher this month as they continue to enjoy the power of unlimited free food during Free Food February.

Throughout Free Food February, the slimmers will be challenged to pass on their love of healthy food to their family and friends in a bid to ‘love it, cook it, share it’ with the whole local community.

With so many members joining its groups, Slimming World has launched a campaign to recruit more people with a passion for helping others for the “best job in the world”  with a special Slimming World careers opportunity event planned at The Mecure White Hart Hotel,  Salisbury on Saturday 5th March at 9.30am

Claire Wilkinson who manages a team of seven  consultants who run 17 Slimming World groups in the area said, “We’re going through a period of growth. In 40 years millions of people have changed their lives with Slimming World’s brilliant combination of a hunger-busting eating plan, increased activity and weekly group support.

“Now, with obesity at an all-time high – 30 million adults (62%) in the UK are overweight or obese – and government predictions that 80% of men and 70% of women will be overweight or obese in the next decade – the demand for our unique warm and friendly approach has never been greater.

“At Slimming World we have the best eating plan in the world where members can, and do, lose weight without ever having to feel hungry. We have the best understanding of the psychology of slimmers and we choose consultants for their empathy, warmth and understanding.

“We have the best training in the business too. Every consultant who comes on board goes through an intensive programme and is awarded diplomas in aspects of nutrition and successfully running their own slimming business.”

Slimming World is looking for people who have lost weight themselves with the club, who can share their own weight-loss success to build a fabulous career.

Claire added, “Every Slimming World group helps members achieve long-term weight loss through healthy lifestyle changes. Food Optimising is a unique healthy eating plan which satisfies the biggest of appetites by encouraging people to fill up on unlimited amounts of satisfying foods and enjoy meals cooked healthily. Meals like curry and rice, lasagne, Sunday roasts and even fish and chips. Members love the fact that they aren’t restricted.

“Just as importantly, we provide support 52 weeks of the year and our members know from the minute they first walk through the door, often when their self-esteem is at its lowest, that they will never be judged, that their details are completely confidential and that they are with people who understand them.”

Slimming World consultants are all former members. The role is part-time, with the potential to earn £100-£400 a week for working 10-20 flexible hours, as a self-employed franchisee.

For more information about joining Slimming World, contact  Claire on 07900 601239.

  • Council calls on Government to rethink Melksham bypass decision

By Local Democracy Reporter Peter Davison

Someone is killed or seriously injured on a notorious stretch of the A350 roughly once every 11 weeks, a senior councillor has said, as Wiltshire Council demands the Government rethink its decision to ditch funding for the Melksham bypass. During an emergency debate at full council on Tuesday 20th October, councillors overwhelmingly backed a motion condemning the decision and demanding continued investment in the key north-south route. They also called for the more than £500,000 the council has spent developing the scheme to be refunded.

Gompels has taken another step towards building its new warehouse in Melksham after submitting a detailed design of the scheme to Wiltshire Council. The reserved matters application covers the scale, layout, appearance, landscaping and access for the proposed development on land south of the A365 Bath Road and west of Turnpike Garage. It follows outline planning permission being granted earlier this year for the warehouse and office development, which the company says will be a major investment in the town and create hundreds of jobs.

  • New book brings forgotten RAF Melksham history to life

The history of Melksham’s former RAF station is being brought to life in a new book exploring its role in training thousands of service personnel during the Second World War and beyond. Written by retired RAF Wing Commander Rob Cumming, RAF Melksham: Its Beginnings, Life and Re-creation traces the beginnings, working life and eventual re-creation of the station, which opened in 1940 and closed in 1965. Rob began researching the history while working with Melksham Remembers, a local history group. “It became clear that while thousands of airmen and airwomen trained and lived at RAF Melksham from its opening in 1940, its existence is rapidly fading from the community
