AN 83-year old man from Melksham is to get his head shaved to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.
John Bright is to have the chop on Friday 4th July in two separate locations with the hope that more money can be raised if it is done in two of Melksham’s busiest locations. Half of his head will be shaved at Sainsbury’s before relocating to Asda to get the other half shaved.
Graham Griffiths who owns Griff’s Barber Shop in Avon Place will have the honour of completing the shave.
John said, “I really want to do something to raise money for a great cause. I have had Parkinson’s for 17 years so I know what it is like and I thought a head shave would be a good way of showing my support.
“I don’t have a fundraising target but I hope to raise as much as I can and I will have collection buckets with me on the day of the shave so people can sponsor me and hopefully we can raise a lot for Parkinson’s UK.”
“I am looking forward to the event and will keep my head shaved for some months after, rather than letting it grow back straight away. I would like to thank Griff for agreeing to do it, he is fantastic and I appreciate it.”
Graham Griffiths said, “I can definitely say I have never been asked to shave an 83-year-old’s head for charity so it will definitely be a first, but well done him for doing something to raise money for a good cause. I will have a sponsorship form and collection point in my barber shop so I welcome anyone to come in and make a donation.”
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that causes movement to be slower. One person in every 500 has Parkinson’s, that’s about 127,000 people in the UK and there is no cure.
