YOUNG Melksham boxer, Jack Orum, competed in the Wexford Box Cup in Ireland and came home with a silver medal.
From Friday 10th- Sunday 12th November Jack competed in newly formed boxing competition ‘The Wexford Box Cup’ in Bishopswater, County Wexford, Ireland representing Bristol’s Downend Boxing Club.
In his semi-final contest Jack faced the tough David Kinsella of St. Anthony’s boxing club Co. Wexford. A tough contest saw honors even in the first round, however in his first International tournament Jack rallied to book his place in the final taking a split judges decision.
In the final, Jack faced a class operator in all Ireland champion Barry O’Connor of Castleisland Co. Kerry. Jack boxed a composed contest and wasn’t at all phased by his opponent’s obvious experience; however, the Kerry boxer knew that bit more on this occasion and got the judges nod after a quality contest.
Downend coach Craig Turner said, “I am very pleased with Jack’s performance. Jack’s medal is fantastic and represents significant improvement following his hard work and dedication in travelling to Bristol to train”.
