League treble and cup double for Melksham ladies

Melksham’s ladies walking football team have celebrated an outstanding season after securing five trophies, including three league titles.

The team retained their Wiltshire and Gloucestershire league titles before winning the Somerset League in their first season competing in the competition.

They also lifted the County Cup after beating Chippenham in the final and are the current holders of the South West Over-40s Cup.

Player-manager Karen Broadhead said she was proud of the team’s achievements.

“The hard work, commitment, determination and team spirit shown by the players week after week has been incredible,” she said.

The club says its success extends beyond trophies, with walking football offering opportunities to stay active, make friends and support mental wellbeing while continuing to enjoy the game at a slower pace.

Melksham Ladies have welcomed new players this season and are hoping to build on their progress, with plans to develop an Over-50s team to give more women the opportunity to get involved.

Karen paid tribute to everyone who had contributed to the club, from regular players to those who made occasional appearances, attended training or supported the team from the sidelines.

“Every single person has played a part in this success,” she said. “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, but even prouder of the team we have become.”
