Melksham Food and River Festival is gearing up to celebrate its 10th anniversary this weekend, with a jam-packed line-up featuring over 100 stalls of local food and drink, live music, river activities and entertainment.
Held in King George V Park, the free festival will take place on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st August, marking a decade since the event began in 2015.
With a new stage this year to showcase the range of entertainment and live music on offer, performances will be by One Voice Community Choir, Kris Nock Big Band, Rock Choir, The DeciBelles, vocalist Hannah Glencross, Ian Rayney, Sam Bishop and Ruby Derbyshire.
Community information is also a new addition to the festival this year, with stalls offering blood pressure checks and energy advice being on site.
Community groups and charities will also be on site including Friends of Giffords Surgery, Evie’s Gift CIO, Freewheelers Blood Bikes, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Fundraising for Emma Rodger Foundation, Wiltshire Youth Canoe Club, Wiltshire Air Ambulance, plus more.
Food and produce stalls include Ten Hides Distillery, Sandridge Brownies and Bakes, Rebel Lemon and Filthy Fruit, Mr Roast Potato, Mr G’s Rice ‘n’ Peas, plus more.
Entertainment
A popular feature returning this year on Saturday 30th August is the dinosaurs, which will be roaming around the field to meet the children and pose for photos.
On Sunday 31st August, much-loved fire eater, juggler and unicyclist Arthur Plumb will be back to entertain the crowds with a range of tricks and treats.
River-based activities will also be available, including boat trips, paddleboarding and canoeing taster sessions.
Organiser Adrienne Westbrook said, “It’s really nice to know people are really excited. People say it’s a lovely event and it is one of the three big events in Melksham, along with the carnival and Christmas lights. It’s free and has a family vibe about it. It’s just mellow and that is how we like it.”
On both Saturday and Sunday, Melksham’s Town Crier, Ian Pugh will declare the festival open at 11am. It will close at 6pm on Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday.
