The annual Melksham Open Gardens event takes place this coming weekend, Sunday 22nd July. The women of the Melksham branch of the Children’s Society are busy gathering gardeners, collecting bunting and looking up favourite cake and scone recipes for the popular day.
There is a record number of gardens to view this year, which are open from 1pm-6pm, from large and flowery, to bijou and compact, covering wildlife havens, wheelchair-friendly and dementia sensitive designs.
Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre and the Town Hall in advance and cost just £5, with no charge for children. On the day tickets can be bought from the steps of the Town Hall. If a rest from exploring all the best Melksham has to offer is needed, delicious cream teas are available in Place Road.
All the proceeds from the day go to the Children’s Society and their projects to help young runaways. In Melksham alone thousands of pounds has been raised for the charity through the Open Gardens scheme.
