THE Somerset Arms in Semington will become the star of the small screen next week when the popular inn competes in Channel 4’s reality TV gameshow, ‘Four in a Bed’.
Landlord John Adams and close friend Dennis Gowie, who owns DG Car Sales opposite the pub in Semington, will compete against three other bed-and-breakfast owners, all vying for the title of ‘Best value for money B&B’.
Competitors take it in turns to visit each B&B, reviewing the hospitality on offer – and nothing is off limits, with B&B owners inspecting every nook and cranny for the tiniest speck of dirt!
Speaking to Melksham News, John said, “It took a fortnight to film and we travelled to Wales, Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire – I’m not allowed to say much more about what happens, and I’m definitely not allowed to tell you the result!
“Filming was really fun, different to anything I’ve ever done before. We wouldn’t normally behave like this – but filming the show we really got stuck in, checking how clean things were – on top of the wardrobe, around the sinks – I do like a nice clean room!
“I’m nervous to watch it – given the choice, I’d watch it with one eye open, hiding behind the sofa! I’ve no idea how Dennis and I will be portrayed, hopefully we come across well.
“We do a good breakfast here at the Somerset Arms, so I hope that comes across on the TV – we do good food here and I really wanted to highlight that in the show. We have three rooms here at the pub, so hopefully people from further afield will see the show and want to come and stay here.
“I’ll be showing ‘Four in a Bed’ all week in the pub on the big screen and there will be specials on the menu every night – things like a pie and a pint.”
‘Four in a Bed’ will be shown on Channel 4 every weeknight at 5pm starting on Monday 17th September until Friday 21st September. The Somerset Arms takes centre stage in the episode broadcast on Wednesday 19th September, when the bed-and-breakfast owners come to Semington to experience John and Dennis’ hospitality – will the Somerset Arms take the crown for ‘best value for money B&B’? There’s only one way to find out…
