MELKSHAM’S long-running folk club is inviting the town’s musicians and music-lovers to come along to the next meeting to enjoy an evening of eclectic tunes, poems and jokes.
On behalf of the folk club, Leila Riley says, “Most Melksham musicians know all about our wonderful folk club which runs on the second Sunday evening of each month at the Rachel Fowler Centre – but just in case you haven’t heard…
“Melksham Folk Club has been going for 18 years, 14 at Rachel Fowler, and is run by local man, Phil Deverall. Phil has been a folk musician for as long as he can remember, singing and playing English and Irish music as a solo artist and in groups, as well as running various local music sessions. He currently heads up the trio, ‘Curlew’s Cry’.
“Melksham Folk Club is always welcoming and provides a fun, relaxing experience for those who are seasoned musicians, beginners and everyone in between. Phil’s uniquely laid-back and humorous hosting makes it a friendly, non-judgmental forum for even the most nervous novice as we take turns to perform.
“Music varies widely and includes British traditional folk, songs and tunes by modern writers, Beatles, Blues, Americana, Gospel and home-penned songs – there are also poems and jokes.
“There is a good crowd of amicable regulars– some performers and some listeners – who very soon become friends. Entry is the bargain price of £1 to cover the cost of hall hire. This also covers cups of tea or coffee (although you can bring your own soft or alcoholic drinks if you prefer).
“Why not come along on Sunday 11th November at 8pm either to listen or take part? Enjoyment guaranteed!”
