Melksham Walking Netball held a tournament on their final session at Christie Miller in memory of one of their most enthusiastic members, Sylvia Higgs.
The group say, “She passed away in September of this year and had been a member of Melksham and Corsham Walking Netball from the start. Her fun for the game was infectious and she is sadly missed by all the team.
“Three teams took part in the tournament, Melksham, Corsham and Tidworth. The Sylvia Higgs Shield was won by Corsham. The player of the tournament went to Diane Riley. Sylvia’s sister, Jan Gage presented the shield to Jan Wright, Corsham’s host. It is planned to hold the tournament as an annual event. This year’s event raised £150 for Dementia UK. Next year’s charity will be Kidney Research UK.
“Melksham Walking Netball continues to grow, sessions now being held temporarily at Springfield Campus in Corsham SN13 9DN on Friday mornings at 10.45am – 11.45am. New members are always welcome. So come along if you feel like giving it a go. Further details from Sue Mortimer on 07719 935 883.”
