MELKSHAM Rock ‘n’ Roll Club is to host Sandy Ford’s Flying Saucers, a legendary performer from the 70s’ Rock ‘n’ Roll revival, at an event at Assembly Hall.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll band will appear on Saturday 25th October with DJ Bo Dudley also on hand to entertain the audience.
Melksham Rock ‘n’ Roll Club was started after a one-off dance during August 2001 that proved so popular Geoff Mitcham, who is now the chair, was asked to do some more so he did ten in 2002 which resulted in the forming of the club.
Geoff said, “Following 2002 Richard Johnstone came on board to help with the financial side of things. Since then, we have run a dance every month and featured some of the top bands and DJs on the circuit, plus built up a reputation as one of the best Rock ‘n’ Roll clubs in the country. The bands love the venue as The Assembly Hall is an original 50s’ dance hall and the facilities are second to none, plus we are a friendly bunch and the staff are always helpful and enthusiastic.
“You don’t have to dress up, just come and enjoy the music and if you can’t dance, we offer lessons too with Jason and Sam our instructors. Some of the bigger names that have appeared at the club include Marty Wilde, Vince Eager, John Leyton, Mike Berry and from America, Charlie Gracie and Lind Gail Lewis (Jerry Lee’s sister).”
