AVON Bowls Club has announced more exciting news about some great matches played by Avon bowlers.
The club reports, “Marcia Hartley fought back from a weak start in the preliminary round of the National Champion of Champions South Area Competition, but was narrowly beaten 20/21by Sue Cooke from Box BC.
“On the 18th May the club was host for the Bowls Wiltshire Men’s Presidential game, with Senior Vice President John Crowder at their helm. The Men’s Section of West Wilts Bowls Association, captained by Danny Holland, won the contest 138/99. Match officer for the day was Ken Bray.
“Mike Hudd, Pete Renshaw and John Crowder were ‘all square’ at 15/15 after18 ends in the National Triples 1st round played away at Holt BC. But our team went on to win the match 15/16 after playing a deciding end. The same team played at home against Holt BC again, beating them 19/15 in the County Triples 3rd round.
“On 28th May our ladies played three matches in the second round of the County Pairs Competition. At home, and after dropping seven shots in one end and a further four shots in another end, Jean Buckland and Sue Renshaw, undaunted, fought boldly on but sadly lost their game 17/26 to Alex Jacobs and Sue Cooke from Box BC. Marcia Hartley and Georgina Newman played a close game against Margaret Annetts and Jane Mc Shane from Salisbury BC and won the match 17/11. Emma Maslen and Dawn Edwards played their game away at Devizes BC against Ellen Stiles and Sue Reeves. It was a close game but Devizes pulled away to win 13/17.
“We win some we lose some, but whatever the result, we love bowling and always look forward to the next game. No matter who we are up against, whatever the weather, come rain or shine we are ready to meet the challenge! There are many more battles for us throughout the summer, so, watch this space for more exciting news!
