MELKSHAM Remembers is appealing for residents with memories of what life was like in Melksham during World War Two to come along and meet them at an open afternoon next week.
The group, who were behind 2018’s exhibition marking 100 years since the end of World War One, hopes to use the information for a new book focussing on life in Melksham during the war.
The new book will be similar to their first book documenting the history of the town during World War One – which has been a sell-out success.
The open afternoon will be held at Melksham Library on Monday 16th March from 1.30pm to 4.40pm. Visitors will also be able to find out more about the group’s upcoming projects, and view their World War One exhibition.
From the group, Ray Heard said, “We hope to cover topics like the effects of World War Two on Melksham, rationing, and evacuees. So we’d love to hear from antone who has a tale to share.
“Relatives of people who served in the war, in whatever capacity, are also welcome to come along and tell us the name of their relative – we hope to list in the book all the people in Melksham who helped towards the war.”
