THREE friends from Melksham are stepping into the boxing ring to raise money for Cancer Research UK at the Bath Pavilion on Saturday 15th December.
David Assis, Joshua Heathcote and Kirstaleena Compton will be taking on the challenge of each boxing their way to victory in a charity boxing event, organised by Ultra White Collar Boxing.
The event helps those with no boxing background to learn new skills in a safe and enjoyable environment, whilst raising money for Cancer Research UK.
So far, in the events across 100+ locations around the country, fundraisers have donated over £14million since its beginning in 2009, with their aim to raise £20million for the charity.
David Assis told Melksham News, “We are stepping in the ring for the very first time, with no experience of boxing. We want to push ourselves to our limits because we have lost family members and friends to cancer and have family and friends that are fighting cancer at the moment.
“We have been training really hard for this event with help of one of our friends, Daniel Birks. He has been coaching us for the past five months, so we would like to thank him for the time and effort he has put into it, to help us through this journey.
“My dad passed away last year to cancer. Unfortunately after nine months of fighting really hard he couldn’t do it any more. It was heart-breaking waiting for the moment to happen, he was only given six months to live, but he did put up a good fight.
“So I am raising money for Cancer Research UK so we can beat this awful disease.”
