A singing group in Melksham recently held a ‘Ladies’ Day at the Races’ themed session, giving members the chance to have fun and wear smart clothes.
Members of the Singin’ Group attended their weekly meeting at the Riverside Centre, where they sang horse-related songs, including The Blaydon Races and Delaney’s Donkey. They also took part in a raffle, with prizes and rosettes awarded to the winners.
Any funds raised on the day went back into the group.
“Fun is our mantra,” said organiser Jeanette Nash. “We do various themes throughout the year. We try to vary them as much as possible. For St Andrew’s Day at the end of November, we will have a Scottish theme: tartan. We will wear kilts, sing Scottish songs and eat shortbread.
“We all had fun, well done to the members who made a great effort with their outfits.”
The Singin’ Group was founded in 2016 by Jeanette and Mike Nash, who wanted to create a relaxed, inclusive space where residents could sing, socialise and enjoy each other’s company without the pressure of being a formal choir.
The couple were recently awarded a British Empire Medal for their services to the community after being involved in several local initiatives.
