A NEW café has opened in the pavilion in King George V playing field.
Located next to the new play area and the splashpad – which reopened for the summer this month – the opening of the Cricketers Café marks the next stage in the town council’s masterplan to promote the park as a tourist destination.
The new café is managed by married couple Craig and Solance Poole, who also manage the café in Swindon’s Coate Water country park, and are owners of the Best Ever Brownie Company.
They were welcomed to the park by the mayor and deputy mayor, Pat Aves and Geoff Mitcham – one of their last official engagements before the recent local election.
Speaking to Melksham News at the end of the first week of opening, Solance said, “It’s been really good, we’ve had lots of positive feedback – people are really glad to have a café as part of their park. Although the weather hasn’t really been on our side!”
About what’s on offer at the café, Solance said, “We have fresh sandwiches delivered by local company Upper Crust – so people can get lunch here, and we also have a ‘meal deal’. We have hot and cold drinks – and our coffees are barista made, so you can have a mocha, cappuccino, all made with freshly ground coffee.
“And obviously all the sweet treats we make at the Best Ever Brownie Company – so that’s brownies, flapjacks and shortbread. And there’s also snacks, freshly made milkshakes and ice creams. So hopefully people will stay for longer in the park and enjoy the facilities on offer.”
The café is open seven days a week – dependant on weather – 9am to 4pm on weekdays, and 9am to 5pm at weekends.
