£4,000 has been earmarked by the town council to spend on trees to plant around the town as part of the ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’ – a tree planting scheme in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The town council plans to plant a mature tree in the King George V park and organise a community tree planting project.
“Discussions are also starting with landowners, including Selwood Housing” said the town council’s clerk, “with a view to using some of their land, but no areas have been confirmed yet.”
The ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’ scheme is inviting people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ during the official planting season, which runs until March this year, and again from October this year through to the end of the Jubilee year.
