Local fundraisers have trekked to the summit of Snowdon overnight, raising over £4,000 for a children’s charity.
The team of 14, which included local people and teams from Melksham-based businesses TechPoint and MillerKnoll, completed the ‘Snowdon at Sunrise’ challenge. The group has raised £4,442 for Evie’s Gift – a charity providing emergency accommodation for families of seriously ill babies and children when hospital accommodation is unavailable.
They reached the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in Snowdonia, North Wales, on Sunday 10th May in time for sunrise, climbing through challenging conditions, including 35mph winds and freezing temperatures, with wind chill of around -8°C at the summit.
Charity manager Jess Hilsdon said, “Despite the conditions, the atmosphere throughout the challenge was amazing and the team showed incredible determination, encouragement and team spirit from start to finish. After a tough climb in the dark, we were incredibly lucky to be rewarded with beautiful blue skies and stunning views across Snowdonia on the descent.
“Every penny raised will help us continue supporting families of seriously ill babies and children with emergency accommodation close to hospital when they need it most.
“With the cost of accommodation placing additional pressure on families already facing unimaginable circumstances, Evie’s Gift helps to ease both financial and emotional strain at a time when it matters most.
“This challenge was about our community coming together to support families facing incredibly difficult circumstances.”
