A local couple have launched a scheme providing emergency food, toiletries and baby care items to people facing financial hardship.
Bail Out Boxes is run by Marcus and Steph Griggs, who have already supported more than 70 families since launching the initiative in May.
The couple, who are from Melksham and have recently moved to Bromham, coordinate the scheme from their home. To make it accessible for people who cannot travel there, they visit towns across Wiltshire to drop off boxes at designated meeting points advertised each week on their Facebook page.
Steph said, “We have been absolutely blown away by the response. Despite only being open for a couple of months, the demand has shown just how needed this safety net is. When a family hits a sudden wall and cannot stretch their budget to cover basic hygiene or dinner, our box acts as that immediate, temporary relief to help them get back on their feet.
“We started this initiative because we recognised how incredibly hard it is for families to handle the rising cost of living, school holidays, or unexpected drops in income.”
The scheme allows people to request support directly through its Facebook page without needing referral vouchers. Each package is tailored to individual needs through an initial checklist form.
Marcus and Steph said they wanted to create a service that was quick and free from judgement.
“Traditional pathways to emergency support can sometimes involve stressful delays or rigid referral criteria and come with a lot of stigma that causes unnecessary embarrassment,” said Steph. “We wanted to build a fast, dignity-first safety net where anyone facing a difficult time can get quick access to food and hygiene essentials.”
The couple initially funded the scheme themselves but now rely on donations from the community.
Steph said they are currently in need of items including tins, meal packets, toothpaste and shampoo.
“If any members of the public have spare items to donate or would like to make a small monetary donation to help us buy these specific supplies, please message the Bail Out Boxes Facebook page to find out how to get them to us,” Steph added.
Donations can be dropped off in Bromham, or the couple can arrange collection directly.
“If anyone is struggling to make ends meet this week, please do not suffer in silence or feel embarrassed,” said Steph. “There is absolutely no judgement with us. The cost of living is brutal and anyone can find themselves in a tight spot. We are completely confidential, friendly, and here to bail you out until things get easier.”
The scheme operates in Melksham, Devizes, Trowbridge, Calne and Chippenham.
