Handmade rainforest animals created by children and their families went on display at a village primary school’s woodland scarecrow trail.
St Mary’s School in Broughton Gifford hosted its Wildwood Rainforest Scarecrow Trail on Saturday 17th October.
Charlotte Godsiffe, from Friends of St Mary’s School, said, “There was some amazing creativity on show with around 25 beautifully crafted rainforest animals made by the children and their families, including a green anaconda, lemur, sloth, potoo, cassowary, giant river otter, turtles, gorilla iguanas to name but a few.”
The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Willows Care Farm led forest school activities in the woods, including making nature wands and conker caterpillars.
Donkeys Sampson and Ted, from Kelly’s Donkeys, also gave rides around the school grounds.
Charlotte said, “The children absolutely loved taking donkey rides around to explore our school grounds on such a beautifully sunny autumn day.
“It was so lovely to meet so many new families and children thinking of joining the school and let them see for themselves what a welcoming community we have at the school.”
Violet-Ivy, Barnaby and Charlie Annis won the scarecrow contest with their giant river otter, earning tickets to Roves Farm.
St Mary’s will hold two more open days on Wednesday 11th November, from 1.15pm to 2.30pm, and Wednesday 9th December, from 9am to 11am. Families can also contact the school to arrange a tour.
