Melksham charity, Melksham Free Dining, which offers the community a free hot meal, as well as wellbeing, financial and safeguarding support, is holding a dinner party fundraiser at the Assembly Hall on Saturday 19th November at 7pm.
The fundraiser will include music from local acts including: Carey Ann, a solo artist singing covers from the 50s to present; Melksham’s own band Jacob Johns; and Meet Your Feet. There will also be a raffle, half-time hotdogs and collection buckets.
Melksham Free Dining is a non-for-profit charity providing the community with a free hot meal every week, followed by homemade cakes from volunteers, tea, coffee, socialising and activities such as bingo.
In order to continue supporting the town with free dinners, the charity needs to raise £12,000 a year. Tickets to the dinner party cost £10 plus booking fee. “Through the fundraising event we are hoping to raise awareness about us, as the more people that know about the charity, the more they will be able to help. We would really like to be able to raise enough money to be able to open an extra day a week and extend the charity’s offering,” said the group.
“Since it was launched in September last year Melksham Free Dining has offered a hot nutritious meal every Wednesday to over 40 adults from Melksham, Bowerhill and surrounding districts. The scheme was introduced to help tackle the very real fears covid created of loneliness, isolation and vulnerability.
“It has been a huge success. We have grown beyond belief and have established a warm, happy social environment at the Bowerhill Village Hall every Wednesday between 1pm to 3pm.
“Our diners enjoy a free two-course lunch and afterwards a varied selection of activities from bingo, talks, music, quizzes and raffles.
“If you know of someone that would enjoy joining us, please pass on our phone number 01225 374232.
