A record 600 runners signed up for the eighth running of the Wiltshire 10 Road Race in Melksham.
In somewhat chilly conditions, the field set off from Lowbourne Road and headed out to Lacock. After looping around Reybridge, the runners faced a headwind as they headed back to the finish alongside the River Avon in King George V playing fields. Making light of the conditions was Devon runner Shaun Antell of Bideford AAC who recorded an impressive 52-minutes 10-seconds, providing a three minute gap to second placed Aaron Pritchard of Team Bath and Peter Grist of Frome Running Club who, along with his club mates Joseph Donworth, Lee Stone and Stuart Clarke, claimed the team prize.
The ladies’ race saw another Devon runner in Serane Stone of Tiverton Harriers take victory, completing the gently undulating course in 61-minutes 36-seconds, ahead of Jane Faram of Bristol’s Southville Running Club and Vicky Green of Chippenham Harriers. The Bitton Road Runners trio of Lucy Wallace, Liz Sanigar and Lynette Porter took the team prize.
Other prize winners: 1st MV40 – Gary Dunstone of Team Bath AC; 1st MV50 – Dave Lowthian of Forest of Dean AC; 1st MV60 – David Vaudin of Team Bath AC; 1st FV40 – Emma Hines of Chippenham Harriers; 1st FV50 – Lynette Porter of Bitton Road Runners; 1st FV60 – Helen Hugheson from Bath.
All finishers received a specially minted medal, featuring the Wiltshire county flag.
