Macapello, Melksham’s community choir, finished last term on a high, after their concert to a packed audience at St. Andrews’ Church. The performance helped to raise £282 for St Andrew’s Church as well as £38 for Sight Savers.
The choir also appreciated being asked to sing at ‘Maxofest’, the festival held in memory of local teenager Max Lewis. The final song of the set was Max’s favourite – Bob Dylan’s ‘Three Little Birds’, arranged by choir director Guy Wilson.
Macapello sing in a wide variety of styles – pop, gospel, folk, sacred, world and more. The aim is definitely to have fun, as well as always to improve the choir’s beautiful, heartful sound.
Performances this year will include attendance at the annual choir convention at St George’s Bristol, as well as a summer concert.
The choir meets on Wednesdays at Aloeric School at 7.30pm. Some new singers have already joined for the autumn term, but more are always welcome.
No previous experience of singing in a choir is needed and learning of songs is by heart, not by music sheets.
