Amid the usual Christmas festivities of Nativity plays, dinners, and carols, the staff and children at Shaw School have been reflecting on a very successful 2018.
One notable highlight has been fantastic academic outcomes, as shown in the recently published national data sets. Children at Shaw School outperformed national expectations in many of this summer’s end-of-year tests and assessments, achieving the best results the school has seen for several years.
In August, the school became a full part of The White Horse Federation Multi-academy Trust. The support and challenge provided by the Trust has helped the school improve approaches to several aspects of teaching and learning, all of which have supported the excellent results achieved. Furthermore, The White Horse Federation has identified many aspects of excellent practice at Shaw School, some of which are now being used as best practice models to share with other schools.
In the wider curriculum, there has been sporting success in several local tournaments, with the school basketball and football teams performing extremely well. Their passion, determination, and teamwork has been an inspiration to pupils and teachers alike. Children from the school also excelled in the recent cross-country event at Melksham Oak.
The breadth of our curriculum has also been demonstrated by the “Outstanding” award our beautiful school garden received from South West in Bloom. A lot of hard work has gone into the garden, and we are delighted that it has been recognised with this prestigious award.
Away from the classroom, Shaw School has proudly launched its new website. Headteacher Simon White said, “We have a great new website which really demonstrates what a special and forward-thinking place Shaw School is. We are also looking forward to improving our communications by launching new social media accounts in the near future.
“The website and social media channels will facilitate clear and efficient communication with parents, allow us to share and promote our many successes, and prove to be a valuable resource for everyone involved with the school.”
The school’s new website can be found at www.shawprimary.com.
2019 looks to be another exciting and successful year for Shaw School as we continue to deliver excellent outcomes for pupils and play our part in the local community.
