Holt resident, Tracey Dunn, leads a support group for local people living with severe allergies. The group will next meet on 11th May at Holt Village Hall (upstairs room) between 3-4.30pm.
Tracey is a parent of a child living with severe allergies to peanuts and animal hair. Her support group is run in conjunction with the Anaphylaxis Campaign, the only UK-wide charity solely focused on supporting people at risk of severe allergic reactions.
Tracey said, “The group has now been running for about a year and is a great place to meet other parents who are managing the day-to-day living with their own allergies, or who are caring for young people, to share top tips and problem-solve issues like travel, schools and workplaces.
“Children are welcome and it is an opportunity for them to meet other children who are also living with allergies, whether they are the allergic one, or it is their sibling or parent. This support group’s theme will be a focus on CPR from My Skills for Life; a local first aid company http://www.myskillsforlife.com/ plus updates on adrenaline and the changes coming in food labelling.
“The support group is free to attend and you are able to either just drop in or you can contact me on boaallergy@gmail.com for more information. We’d love to see you there.”
Lynne Regent, chief executive of the Anaphylaxis Campaign said, “It’s brilliant that Tracey runs a support group for us in the Holt area. Many people don’t realise just how serious allergies and anaphylaxis can be so our support groups, like the one Tracey is running, provide a vital touch point for people living with severe allergies, and their families, and are a really positive way to support each other.”
Places are free, but donations will be gratefully received. For more information about support groups please visit www.anaphylaxis.org.uk or email supportgroup @anaphylaxis.org.uk.
