THE leader of Melksham Town Council has paid tribute to the Melksham community in the face of the Coronavirus crisis.
“What an amazing response from the Melksham Community,” said councillor Vanessa Fiorelli.
“It’s been a very busy week on our Community Hub, set up to support the community and help vulnerable people. We have had over 100 new volunteers come forward to help others.
“This week we’ve taken over 200 calls from residents and have logged 108 new cases from people who need help. Our volunteers have been picking up essential shopping items, collecting prescriptions and even walking dogs for people who can’t get out.”
The number to call if you need help – or know anyone who does – is 01225 809265 or email support@melkshamcommunity.co.uk.
Services offered include the collection of prescriptions, the delivery of food parcel, emergency top ups on electric key cards and the walking of dogs.
“If you need help or you know of anyone who does, please get in touch,” added Cllr Fiorelli. “We’re particularly keen to hear from people who need their prescriptions collected. We can pick up and deliver prescriptions and this means people don’t have to go out and it eases the pressure on the pharmacies. Just call the helpline on 01225 809265.”
