A LOCAL woman is walking her way around Melksham to help raise money and awareness for the national charity, Samaritans.
Amy Whitlock is attempting to walk a total of 310,000 steps over the 31 days in March.
She has set herself a fundraising target of £200 for the charity, which offers emotional support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide.
Amy says she was inspired to take part in the challenge after noticing the impact the national lockdowns have had on everyone’s mental health.
“After seeing the impact that the past year has had on lots of close friends I decided I wanted to do something to help raise vital funds for the Samaritans, who are available 24/7 to listen,” said Amy.
“I saw the 310,000 step challenge and although I knew it would be tough, I knew it would be worth it.
“I reached out to some local friends and have been lucky enough to be joined by a friend or two this past week for a ‘walk & talk’ which has been lovely.”
“Anyone who is suffering with their mental health please, don’t suffer in silence. The Samaritans can be contacted on 116 123 or by email: jo@samaritans.org.”
