Atworth Parish Council is hoping to be reunited with the two missing sign posts so they can be repaired and reinstalled.
Parish clerk, Philip McMullen said, “Atworth Parish Council have arranged with contractors to repair and replace the old-fashioned fingerpost located at the Poor Houses Junction near to Little Chalfield.
“Wiltshire Council no longer has any money in its budget to replace signs such as these so the Parish Council has sought and obtained permission to have the work done, rather than lose such an important part of our rural heritage.
“The sign has been measured, the wood purchased for the post and arms and cut to size, and they had started cutting the post slots.
“Unfortunately however the wide arm pointing south (to Holt), and the arm pointing to Chalfield, have recently gone missing. The owner of cottage nearby said she’d noticed the two arms had fallen off a few weeks ago and she’d lent them up against the sign post, but a few days later they’d both disappeared.
“Could I ask if any of your readers have kindly put them to one side for safe keeping or perhaps know where they have gone, perhaps they might contact myself, the Parish Clerk, so that we can arrange for them to be refurbished.”
