Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a horse was spooked by a van travelling at speed in Melksham, causing the rider to fall from the horse.
On 31st July, between 9.20am and 9.40am, the victim – a woman in her 30s – was leaving an equestrian lodge on Lower Woodrow Road on her horse and came to the edge of the road, say police.
A van which was travelling at speed along the road spooked the horse, throwing the victim off.
The horse then stood on the victim, causing serious injuries to the rider.
A spokesperson from Wiltshire Police said, “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured dash cam of the van. It’s described as white with brown markings on the side – we unfortunately don’t have a make, model or number plate.
“We’d also like to remind drivers of the importance of passing horses “wide and slow”, keeping at least two metres distance and reducing speed to a maximum of 10mph.”
