At its last meeting on the 5th February, the Atworth History Group welcomed James Holden who gave an interesting talk about gate lodges in Wiltshire, which was a perfect companion to the talk we had in January looking at follies in Wiltshire.
James has written a book about Wiltshire gate lodges, and has recently published another on the subject of non-conformist chapels.
On Monday 4th March, Ruth Butler will give a talk to the history group about extraordinary Wiltshire women who shaped Wiltshire’s history. We very much look forward to welcoming her to Atworth.
We meet in Atworth Village Hall at 7:30pm. Visitors are very welcome at the modest cost of £5 for the evening, or you may wish to join for an annual subscription of £15.
Following the success of the talk the history group presented last year entitled “A history of Atworth from the Romans to the third millennium”, there have been so many people who said they either missed it or would like to see it again that we’ve decided to do a final presentation on Saturday 13th April at 10:30am in Atworth Village Hall.
The format will be the same as before with free entry to anyone who would like to find out a bit more about the history of Atworth. There’s no need to book in advance – just come along on the day.
