As another outdoor bowls season comes to an end, members and guests enjoyed a warm and sunny afternoon at our Ladies’ and Men’s Captains Day.
The club was honoured to host Richard Ball and Richard Carey from Visually Impaired Bowls England (VIBE), who played with the Avon team, demonstrating that bowls is an inclusive sport for all. Their excellent bowling left club members in awe of their skill. We hope that next season, VIBE will return with a larger team for some competitive bowling.
This year, we entered a team in the new County Mixed Triples League and finished as runners-up, narrowly losing by one shot, with 32 shots to Stratton Scorpions and 31 shots to Avon Turbos. The Avon Arrows “Tea and Biscuits” team also finished as runners-up in their division. The Mid Wilts Triples League was won by Avon Roadrunners, and Avon also claimed victory in the 4×4 Premier League, marking many successes in the 2024 season.
As we transition into the autumn/winter season, we continue with our fortnightly Breakfast Club, offering sausage or bacon rolls on the 4th October from 9.30am to 11.30am. The singalong group meets on Mondays from 1.30pm to 3pm.
There will be a quiz on Saturday 19th October at the clubhouse, starting at 7pm, the first of two this winter.
Our Sunday afternoon bingo sessions begin on 27th October at 2.30pm, continuing every fortnight until April.
The Ladies will also have a stall at the Christmas fayre and lights switch-on at the Assembly Hall on 7th December.
We have welcomed many new members this season and strengthened our ladies’ team. For details on how to join our off-season events, please email Richard Bell at ABC-Secretary@hotmail.co.uk.
