MELKSHAM News has been hearing about countless acts of kindness and real community spirit as people help each other in these difficult times.
Here we say thank you to the Local Heroes doing great work in our community.
The Melksham Community response team are doing an absolutely amazing job and fully deserve the recognition for their hard work and dedication to supporting all members of our community.
I’d like to nominate my mum and all other care workers that are putting in extra hours at Blenheim House Care Home, heroes in my eyes.
Medvivo Responders. They not only go to patients. They also go to Telecare users who have the 24/7 Response facility. The team work 24/7 and cover all of Wiltshire (except Swindon). They are amazing.”

The Melksham Community response team – the people running it are amazing – very well organised and tireless with their efforts.
I have to say the local councillors running the Melksham Community response are doing a fantastic job – organising shopping, prescriptions, calls to people on their own etc.
“We wanted to nominate our wonderful neighbour, Jenny Bertelrud. From day one, Jenny has been doing weekly shopping for our household, plus another vulnerable family despite getting up at 3am to complete her shifts for Tesco. She is always asking if she can help us and brightens our day. A truly selfless and kind lady and a thousand thank-yous isn’t enough.”
“I’m only trying to help my neighbours; it’s what everyone is doing now,” Jenny told Melksham News. “Those of us who are well and not at high risk can provide support for neighbours who can’t leave the house.
“I’ve starting working at Tesco in Trowbridge loading delivery vans so have been able to pick up things for neighbours while I’m there.
“Like a lot of people, I wanted to help out a bit; I felt like I needed to do something; be part of helping. We’re all in this together; one of the people I’m helping has diabetes and is self isolating so it’s important he doesn’t go out. I’m only doing what so many other people are doing to help their neighbours.”
Whether it’s a community group doing inspirational work, front-line NHS or care worker, a community volunteer, a shop or key worker or any or even a helpful neighbour, please let us know and we’ll share it with the town. Where possible, please include a contact number or email address for any nominees.
