STAFF and pupils at Forest and Sandridge Primary School began the school year at their new state-of-the-art building this month, and are enjoying the long-anticipated move.
The school moved into its new home on Cranesbill Avenue over the summer holiday, taking the huge step from a Victorian schoolhouse to the 21st century build.
Headteacher of ten years Anna Willcox said, “The new school is amazing! The move went well and we’ve waited for this for so long, so we’re really making the most of the new facilities.
“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from the parents, and the children love it. It’s very novel for a lot of them, and it’s been interesting for some of the older pupils who have watched the moving process from start to finish. It has been a big adjustment but everyone has settled in so well; the students are doing us proud.
“The best thing for me is the sheer amount of space we have now. It’s great to get whole classes doing P.E. lessons together, have more room for group work, and to be able to get the entire school into the hall for assemblies or special events.”
The new school is based on over five acres of land and has the capacity for 420 students. It is a brand new facility built within the past year to replace the Victorian building on Sandridge Common, which had been home to the school since 1875.
Forest and Sandridge CE Primary School will be holding open days for prospective parents on Thursday 8th October, Friday 27th November and Thursday 7th January.
