The renowned local hotel Beechfield House, near Melksham, has been acquired by the luxury hospitality group Roseate Hotels & Resorts.
The purchase marks the latest addition to the Roseate portfolio, which includes distinguished hotels in India and the UK. The sale signals a promising future for the historic property.
Set in eight acres of landscaped gardens and woodlands, Beechfield House, a grade II listed property, inspired by the 16th century Italian Renaissance, was built in the year 1878 and owned by a gentleman named Richard Keevil. It remained an impressive family home for 90 years until it was converted into a hotel in the late 1960s with the word ‘House’ added to its name.
Beechfield House is a delightful boutique hotel with 24 luxurious rooms with impressive views of the outdoors, majestic late Victorian architecture, high ceilings, striking antique fireplaces, large windows and a charming orangery.
Boasting a sprawling terrace, a heart-warming walled garden and a heated, 40-foot outdoor swimming pool, Beechfield House is a popular destination for both visitors to the area and for dining, meetings and events, private gatherings and bespoke weddings.
In addition to Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence award, Beechfield House was awarded the AA Inspectors’ Choice Country House Hotel 2024-25, an AA Breakfast Award 2024-25 and prestigious 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence 2024-25. With sustainability at its core, Beechfield House has retained its 4 AA Red Stars, in recognition of its world class hospitality, placing it amongst the top 200 UK hotels in the country.
Chris Whyte, owner, said “I am delighted to be handing over into the safe custody of the Roseate Group a much-loved home and business of 19 years. A very special thanks to the fantastic team and local suppliers – many of whom have been with me throughout the whole incredible journey and who have all played their part in us achieving the many accolades over the years. It was great working with Matthew Smith of Knight Frank who facilitated a discreet off market sale at a guide of £4m for my retirement.”
Ravi Birdy, Executive Director of Roseate Hotels & Resorts said, “Each of our Hotels & Resorts has its own distinct character. Each a unique narrative. What weaves them together is an exceptionally warm bespoke guest experience, that is tastefully woven around the very soul of each property, whose charming history, legacy and location are something we like to honour. We welcome Beechfield House and its exceptionally talented team into the Bird family, and we look forward to responsibly and mindfully restoring Beechfield House, re-
imagined!”.
