SHAW has come second in the final round of the Wiltshire Best Kept Village competition, organised by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).
The competition, sponsored by the Hills Group, saw 39 villages throughout the county tested for tidiness, cleanliness, presentation and village community spirit.
Earlier in the year, in the first round of the competition, Shaw was crowned the Best Kept Village in West Wiltshire in the medium category.
Progressing to the final, Shaw was awarded second place in the medium category, missing out on the top spot to Mildenhall.
The group Community Action for Whitley & Shaw (CAWS) who cleaned, tidied, planted and care for the village in the lead up to the competition will receive £100 to spend on the village and a certificate.
Chairperson for CAWS Michelle Tattersall said, “We are thoroughly thrilled about placing second. It’s really well deserved and it just shows how lovely you can make your village look when people come together and work hard.
“It’s not just CAWS who had a hand in this, other community groups like the garden club, the village team and Shaw Church all played their part.
“For next year’s competition we want to build on what we have achieved and get both Shaw and Whitley through to the final round. To get both first and second next year would be the dream!”
