Wiltshire Police are warning people to be on their guard following what is believed to be an elaborate scam where the offender(s) posed as police officer(s).
A local man was phoned by a male calling himself Mr Dean saying he was an accounts’ manager and was contacting people regarding Government Federal Grants, he told the man that he was eligible for a cheque of £6,500.
Dean said that a payment of £220 was required upfront and then he would be given a form to fill out which Dean would help him with. The man believed that something wasn’t right, so made excuses to end the conversation, he was then given a contact number to call when available; 0161 818 2609. He then called the police.
Luckily the man never handed over any money.
Wiltshire Police are asking people to be extra vigilant and report all incidents like this one to Action Fraud, or in emergency to their local police via the 101 number.
