The slow start to the season continued for Melksham with the first team travelling to Bradford on Avon last weekend.
The game was played at high tempo by both teams and a good game of rugby ensued. The home team were first to strike after a strongly contested 20 minutes, their inside centre beating the defence to start off the scoring.
Bradford’s second opportunity came shortly after when they worked their way up field to score from a catch and drive from the line out. Melksham rallied and put unrelenting pressure on the home team in their half, taking five points through captain Charlie Radcliffe from a catch and drive. Half time score 10 – 5.
Both teams came out firing in the second half to get the next score. Melksham missed their chance to level it as the last pass went to ground.
The home team came on strongly in the last quarter, capitalising on a defensive error with a very fluid attack with the ball continuously moving to score a great try. The penultimate points came from a push-over try by the strong home team to take the game.
