Not to be outdone by the men’s success, the club’s ladies Nor-West League team gained an 18 shot and 4-2 points win on the Blue Circle green on Tuesday 22nd May. Skip Gwenda Kelley with Margaret Bourne and Heather Davis, were on level terms going into the last end on 12 shots each. In a nail-biting finish, they couldn’t quite prevent their opponents from snatching a two-shot victory. The second rink of Skip Sylvia Davis with Nicole Palmer and Sue Davies had greater success, being dominant throughout and easily winning 26-6.
Constant heavy rain was a spoiling feature of the MWTL game played at the Trowbridge Town green on the 24th May. Top of the table and unbeaten since the start of the season, Broughton were in confident mood as play began. The rain was unremitting and the surface soon became saturated, causing a trail of spray from each bowl as it travelled its course. With play becoming more difficult as the game progressed, the captains agreed to abandon proceedings once the minimum required 40 ends had been completed. Match result: Broughton Gifford 12, Trowbridge Town 2. Teams and scores; Richard Brooks, Trevor Cooke and Vince Davis 9-8; Tony Day, Mervyn Davies and Paul Stocker 10-6; Tony Stanley, Keith Darby and Pete Rigby 5-8; Trevor Gardner, Richard Mizen and Graham Whitfield 13-5.
