MELKSHAM travelled to play Burbage and Eastern Royal 2’s for their first game of the season.
Melksham won the toss and decided to bowl first. They started with energy but couldn’t take advantage of a couple of opportunities as the Burbage openers looked to dominate the early proceedings.
With a change of bowling, came a change of fortune as Jack Footner got the breakthrough for the visitors. Burbage continued to attack the bowling to try and post a big score but Melksham kept plugging away with regular wickets falling and some tight fielding in the later stages. Melksham restricted Burbage to 229 for 8 from their 45 overs, a fair effort considering the good start Burbage got off to. Russ Collins was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 40 from his 9 overs.
In reply Melksham lost their openers early, which brought Joe Veacock and Russ Collins to the middle who decided to counter-attack. Melksham’s run chase was looking good until Veacock was adjudged LBW for 39 and with Collins run out on 42. Regular wickets followed as Melksham couldn’t keep their momentum and were eventually all out for 169.
